Local Place Plans Training

Earlier this year (2025) The Improvement Service worked in partnership with Place at the Table and Imagine If.Space to deliver free training for community councils on Local Place Plans.  There were six sessions, all recorded and the recordings along with presentation slides for each session can be found on these pages.

Week 1 Introduction to LPPs Part One

This first of two introductory sessions introducing the basics of a Local Place Plan. This session is designed to help you make an informed decision as to whether creating a Local Place Plan is the right step for your group.
Week 2 Introduction to LPPs Part Two

In this session we look at what the legislation and guidance say about what types of organisation can submit a Local Place Plan and whether your group qualifies.
Week 3 Project Managing your LPPs

This session outlines the big picture of how to create a Local Place Plan for your community. It expands on the short intro to this topic given at the end of the previous session.
Week 4 Designing an Engagement Strategy for your LPPs

At the heart of a Local Place Plan is hosting community conversations. This session covers some low-cost, simple to use tools for digital and face-to-face sessions that will help you get the data you need in a format you can use.
Week 5 Processing the data you gather for your LPP

So, you’ve gathered stories, ideas and data from 2-300 people in your community? That’s a lot of information! What do we do with it now? This session demonstrates simple approaches to analysing data for a Local Place Plan.
Week 6 Writing your Statement of Regard to Statutory Plans: An Introduction to NPF4 for your LPP

This session is an introduction to National Planning Framework 4 (NPF4) which already shapes development in your area, and will continue to do so for the lifetime of your Local Place Plan.
