Mentoring opportunity for community active travel

Sustrans Scotland have announced the launch of Activate Mentoring, their new active travel peer mentoring programme for community organisations across the country.

The programme will allow community councils and others who already do fantastic work encouraging active travel in their local community to share their knowledge with other organisations.

Mentees will be supported to develop or expand a range of projects across different communities, such as walking groups, litter picking, improving public spaces, under the guidance of Mentors from organisations delivering these projects already.

Mentors need to have two years’ experience in developing or running a successful activity and Sustrans Scotland and the Scottish Mentoring Network will provide training, guidance and materials for Mentors to help them deliver training, alongside a Continuing Professional Development certificate when they complete the course.

There are also plans to set up an online space for mentors and mentees to informally share knowledge and interact with each other in between meetings.

Applications for both mentors and mentees are now open.  To express interest, sign up or find out more about the scheme, register with the Active Travel Hub network.

Sustrans will pay expenses for mentoring meetings and can also arrange other types of training (such as fundraising, project management, or cycle trainer certification) as part of the programme if a need is identified during the mentor process.

If you have a great project, and want to share your learning with others, sign up now at the link above.
