Earn while you learn in Community Litter Workshops

People across Scotland are wanted for online and in-person workshops to learn more about littering issues.

Environmental charity Keep Scotland Beautiful is offering £35 to people who attend the two-hour workshops taking place in February, as part of their commitment to the government’s National Litter and Flytipping Strategy.

Eighty-two per cent of those who responded to the consultation on the new strategy shared a strong appetite for the establishment of a community education programme.

In response to this, as part of the Year 1 Action Plan, Keep Scotland Beautiful is hosting these workshops which will cover the litter emergency in Scotland and plan a first step to tackle litter in the community. These workshops will also shape what future workshops may look like.

Five workshops are planned across Scotland throughout February following the publication of Keep Scotland Beautiful’s Scottish Litter Survey, which found that 90% of people agree that litter is a problem across the country.

The report also found that 70% of people believe that litter is a problem locally. These Community Litter Workshops will explore why litter is a hard problem to fix; the scale of the problem; the wider impacts of the problem; and ways to consider changing the behaviours that are leading to the litter emergency.

Participants will be encouraged to think positively and consider a first step they can plan personally, locally and, where relevant, as part of their workplace to help change behaviours. There will also be plenty of opportunities for participants to share their views, so that future workshops can be designed to be as practical as possible.

The Community Litter Workshops will take place in February 2024 for people living in:

* Aberdeen City: 7 February, (online)

* Dumfries & Galloway: 8 February, (online)

* North Lanarkshire: 20 February (in-person)

* Renfrewshire: 21 February, (in-person)

* There will also be an online Scotland-wide workshop on 29 February
