New £11.5m fund open: Investing in Communities

News story posted: 08/05/2019

A new Scottish Government £11.5 million fund is open to community groups to help tackle disadvantage, poverty and inequality in communities.

Eligible applicants include community anchor organisations, community councils and third sector organisations that promote or improve the interests of their local communities, and community social enterprises that re-invest profits generated for the sustainable and lasting benefit of the local communities being supported.

The fund encourages community-led development, design and delivery of sustainable local solutions addressing local issues, circumstances and aspirations – such as supporting out-of-school provision, providing activities and workshops, creating a community café and improving job opportunities.

Examples of project/service delivery include:

  • providing financial capability support
  • helping people to navigate through and manage welfare benefit changes
  • supporting out-of-school provision and child care opportunities
  • proactively tackling food insecurity in a dignified and holistic way
  • support to help people to sustain their tenancies – but only for focused delivery that is over and above the core responsibilities of the landlord.
  • supporting people towards employment and better economic prospects
  • providing services and access to resources for those on the lowest incomes
  • enabling improved health and well-being in a sustainable way

The Investing in Communities Fund (ICF) is a new streamlined communities fund that is delivered as part of the Empowering Communities Programme. The fund reflects Scottish Government’s commitment to investing in communities so that they can develop the resources and resilience to decide their own aspirations, priorities and solutions in response. The fund will support the most disadvantaged or fragile communities, to tackle poverty in all its forms on their own terms.

The minimum amount which can be applied for is £3,000 over a six month period, while the maximum is £250,000 over three consecutive years.

The funding is for 2019 to 2020. The fund is open for applications until 6 pm 14 June 2019 with grant offers expected to commence in September this year.

Applications should be submitted via e-mail to investingincommunities@gov.scot no later than 6 pm on 14 June 2019.

If you have any questions regarding this guidance and/or the application process please send an email to investingincommunities@gov.scot
