Community Choices Fund is open for appicationsScottish Government’s Community Choices Fund is open and seeking applications from community councils and community organisations.

Community choices, also known as participatory budgeting (PB), is a way for local people to have a direct say in how, and where, public funds can be used to address local requirements. PB is used alongside other models of community engagement and empowerment as part of a wider strategic approach to advancing participatory democracy. For more information and examples of PB, please visit http://pbscotland.scot/

First launched in 2016/17, the Community Choices Fund supports PB in Scotland. Targeted particularly at work in deprived areas, the fund aims to build on the support provided by the Scottish Government for PB since 2014 as part of a broader agenda around democratic innovation and engaged citizenship. PB empowers local people to make decisions on local spending priorities and contributes to local participatory democracy.

A total of £750,000 is available through the 2018/2019 fund and applicants can apply for a minimum of £20,000 up to a maximum sum of £100,000. This includes project funding and support costs.

The closing date for applications is midnight Friday, 13 July 2018. For more information about the fund, including guidance and application packs, please visit https://beta.gov.scot/publications/community-choices-fund-guidance-and-application-forms/
